Design an Avatar Inspired Tattoo <<Contest!>> Please pass this info around.





Hello Fandom!

Some of you know me from AvatarSpirit.Net. I am very fond of body art. I have pondered an Avatar inspired tattoo for months and months now. I have sketched various designs, but so far, nothing has really spoken to me. I often browse all the fantastic fan art here on DA. Sometimes I see a piece and say to myself, "Wow, this would make a gorgeous tattoo!"

Finally I gave up the idea of designing the tattoo myself. I asked a tattoo artist how they would feel about creating something for me. Unfortunately, not many artists are familiar with the show. So I decided to turn to the people that truly know Avatar...the fans. I probably should have done this months ago

You can enter as many times as you want. When you submit your art, you understand that I will use the winning entry to permanently tattoo my skin. The tattoo will be photographed many times, and since I am an avid Avatar fan, it might be shown on ASN. By winning this contest, you will be giving me the right to proudly display this work without having to get written permission, or paying any sort of "royalty". The winner will be fully credited for its creation. Also, a transfer will be made by the tattoo artist, so understand that the design might be altered slightly.

The area I am interested in inking is my upper left arm. It will cover up a tattoo I currently have, which is directly in the center of my shoulder. The tattoo to be covered is an ankh (☥ think of the symbol that Death from Sandman wears around her neck). Since the winning design will be used to cover-up an existing tattoo, I suggest making your design image heavy in the middle.

Originally, I designed 4 fans that each had an Asian influenced scene of a season on the fan. Then, instead of the sun in the sky, I sketched the appropriate nation symbols in each fan. You do not have to use this idea; I added it just to give you a better understanding of what direction I am going. All designs are welcome. I am not looking for a tattoo of any one particular character. So please do not work hard on a design of Aang, or Katara etc. I am looking more for the essence of the show. You can however send designs of the whole gAang if you would like. If you have existing art that you would like to enter, please do! It does not have to be specifically designed with me in mind. Just remember what I said above about letting me use and display the art without any restrictions.

The actual tattoo will be 3x2 or 4x2 depending on the complexity of the winning design. Please keep this in mind when designing the tattoo. I would like the tattoo to be symmetrical. I am open to any layout, but prefer images that either take up a square space, or round space. I am also looking for good use of color. I do not like a lot of heavy black ink, so when designing the tattoo, try to use black when only necessary (like for outlines etc.)



The contest will run for 2 months. I decided to run the contest for so long to give any participating artist plenty of time to create something. I understand how busy life can be

6. The design should be Avatar inspired and Asian inspired, but not focused on one particular character. You can focus on a Nation, and you can enter any fan art that you have previously created. If you think it will make a good tattoo, then please enter it. You can also use calligraphy in your piece.
7. If your design is chosen as the winning piece, I may ask you to change something in the picture, but this will not change your position as the winning entry.
8. Please contact me with any questions that you might have. Since this is so important to me, I will make sure to respond as soon as I can. I will also add your questions and my answers to my journal if I feel it would help other participants.
